Bad Break-Ups: Why some haven't left "King" Eddie...
In the peak of my “word of faithness,” I used to love watching Eddie Long on TV and listening to his sermons. His classic “watch this, watch this” raspy whisper before he made a point while looking over the top of his glasses was always classic to me. Classic like “great public speaking trick” and classic like “this is HILARIOUS” all at the same...

Religion is not bad - bad religion is bad.
For a good while now, because of some really bad religious experiences and poor examples of good religion, our culture has openly rejected the idea of “religion.” Openly religious people and their organizations have done terrible things to people and society has responded by saying “keep your religion.” In response, Christianity came up with clever bumper sticker quotes...

Watch the Throne - Theological reasons why its...
Let me start from the top - Jay Z and Kanye West’s “Watch the Throne” is an ICONIC piece for the 21st century.
“Steve, that is a BOLD statement bro!”
You’re right. It is. And I stand by it. Before you shoot me down or build me a mansion, allow me to explain.
What I am NOT saying is WTT is the best album you’ve ever heard. What I’m not saying is...

Work inspires inspiration. Keep working. If you succeed, keep working. If you fail, keep working. If you’re interested, keep working. If you’re bored, keep working.

Goodbye baptism, hello altar calls?
I feel like the western church has replaced baptism w/ the altar call as the primary means of displaying a public faith in Jesus Christ. And I’m not saying that’s a good thing….at all
Scripturally, whether you believe baptism is a means to salvation or whether you believe baptism is an outward grace of salvation - either way you believe that a major component is the public...

"The Lord saw fit to save him..."
This is probably the single most encouraging phrase not found in scripture to me. Not that the idea doesn’t exist conceptually in scripture, its just that this exact verbiage isn’t found in scripture. Yet, I find deep, deep encouragement from these words.
Now before you accuse me of being all Calvinistic here, this isn’t a phrase that holds true to Calvinists alone. Calvinists...

The youth are NOT our future
On any given Sunday, you’re likely to hear a pastor type say “Look at these young people in here. We need to keep them in prayer because they are the church of the future!”
I can not stand it when I hear that. The future? So should they leave and come back later when they can actually BE the church? Well, I guess we don’t have to ask that question because essentially...

OUR story is not THE story
“7 steps to help Christians share their story.” This, and things like it are the common themes that run through much of evangelicalism today. The premise is to get people to do what the Bible explicitly tells us to do: spread the gospel to everyone, everywhere. But maybe its a littel…off.
For some people, sharing THEIR story is compelling. “I was a drug dealer making...
